PokerNews.com has learned that two of the more longstanding online poker brands are set to merge. The poker world is buzzing with rumors that Ultimate Bet, and Absolute Poker are set to announce their long-rumored merger…

 

The U.K. stock-price devaluation that occurred after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement ACT [UIGEA] was signed into law has brought on a second wave of change, as merger and acquisition rumors…

 

PokerTek, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTEK) will host a conference call on Monday, November 13, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time to discuss its financial results for the three and nine month periods ended September 30, 2006.

 

It did not take long for poker to move from fledgling TV newcomer to media darling, with countless TV producers scrambling to add celebrities, new technology, unusal formats and plenty of hype to the world’s most popular card game, and now they hope to do it again with a game with more gamble - blackjack. The most popular casino table game has been rejigged to fit the TV format, even borrowing from one of the most popular of Poker TV’s mainstays, the Texas Holdem tournaments. World Series of Blackjack on GSN is one example of a Blackjack show that is already in the works, as is the Ultimate Blackjack Tour on CBS, where players compete not only against the house but against each other in a “freezeout” format, and the player with chips left at the end of the day is declared the winner.

Coming on the heels of the implementation of electronic Texas Holdem Tables in CA casinos, the Progressive Gaming International Corporation (PGIC) made the announcement that they will be taking the concept one step further - by taking it wireless and making it remote. The tables have no dealer but instead a number of flat panel touch screen monitors that record and display the action, while the PGIC concept completely removes the table, giving customers handheld devices that would allow them to roam the casino or even move to the pool or the restaurant and continue to play. PGIC devices would use the World Series of Poker “Peer to Peer” Texas Holdem game, and would be a perfect solution for casinos that don’t have a poker room.

Intertops.com Lady Luck was well and truly on the side of a 27 year old Finnish poker enthusiast, Petteri S. as he sat playing Texas Hold em’ on IntertopsPoker.com, when his table was handed the honor of receiving the 1,000,000,000th played hand on the network.

 

Lakes Entertainment Inc. reported a revenue increase of 180 percent for the third quarter to $5.9 million, from $2.1 million in the third quarter of 2005. The big difference is that during the third quarter this year, Lakes’ majority-owned subsidiary, WPT Enterprises Inc., delivered nine episodes of the World Poker Tour television series; last year none were delivered in the third quarter.
