World Series of Poker May Suffer
When the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act became law on October 13th, many saw the crippling effect it would have on the online poker industry, but few predicted the impact it could have on the most prestigious, longest running pro poker tournament series in America, the World Series of Poker. The Harrah’s run event saw over 8,700 players show up for the Main Event this year, which was only one out of forty or more events. Now that the online poker industry has suffered a blow, it will mean less players qualifying online, less money to pay for those expensive $10,000 seats, and less desire for the WSOP to deal with organizations that are considered almost criminal by the US Government.

Poker terminology:
- QUARTER - [1] Twenty-five dollars, often symbolized by a green casino chip. [2] To divide half a pot between two tying hands. In split pot games, a player who "ties" another player for their half of the pot is said to be "quartered". One might say "I didn't bet my A-2 because I figured I'd get quartered".
- OPENERS - Cards in a hand that qualify a player to open the betting.
- ACTION - Money that is being bet. "NO ACTION" means a hand or game has few bettors and fewer raisers. "Gimme some action" is ostensibly a plea for calls and raises.
- DEAD MAN'S HAND - Generically: two pair, aces and eights. Specifically: the black aces, black eights and nine of diamonds. The hand Wild Bill Hickok was holding when he was shot to death.
- ON THE COME - A situation where the player does not have a complete hand but hopes to make one if the right cards come up.
- RIVER - The last card dealt in a hand of stud or Hold'em.
