NBC launches poker show
NEW YORK, Oct. 13 (UPI) — NBC is set to launch a new series “Poker After Dark,” which will air at 2:05 a.m. ET six nights a week. Zap2it.com reported that “Poker After Dark,” debuting on Jan. 2, is NBC’s way of catching up to other networks that have joined the trend of poker programming.

Poker lexicon:
- ONE-EYED - The jack of hearts, jack of spades or king of diamonds. So named because the characters are drawn in profile, thus showing only one eye.
- LOOSE - Playing more hands than the norm. Antonym: TIGHT.
- HOYLE - Edmund Hoyle (1769-?) was the authoritative source for rules of card games. Hoyle is to card rules as Webster is to word definitions.
- FULL OF - Describes a full house. "Fives full of queens" is 5-5-5-Q-Q.
- POT ODDS - The amount of money in the pot divided by the amount of money you must bet in order to call. Often used to determine if a pot offers enough reward to play on the come.
- SHOWDOWN - The point at the end of the hand where all active players reveal their cards and the pot is awarded to the winner(s).
