The bill that passed Congress last week has caused more speculation, and may result in more sweeping changes to the online poker, and online gaming business outside the U.S….
When the Safe Ports Act was passed last week, and along with it the attached Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, many poker rooms immediately hoisted sails and shipped out of the American online poker market, but others have taken a more cautious, wait and see, approach. One such company, that states that it has more flexibility because it is privately owned, is Absolute Poker, the fourth largest online poker company. Confident in their ability to provide the same level of service to their US customers, Absolute Poker recently pointed out that there was nothing specific in the act that would prevent US players from playing on their site.
Online poker has become such a global industry that the decisions of one nation regarding poker have an impact, large or small, on the whole.
