The World Championship of Online Poker main event has come to a close, and JC Tran took the big prize at the event. Playing under the user name of area23JC, Tran has won the biggest online tournament in history, taking the winner’s share of a $6,275,000 prize pool. By DENNIS DEITCH Now that the nightmare that was the Main Event of the 2006 World Series of Poker has been broadcast in all its glory, I want to share some general thoughts about the action and specifically one hand that I believe was pivotal in Jamie Golds victory.
The day that many poker players and industry members have long feared has come to pass - the US Congress has passed a bill that calls for the enforcement of a ban on internet gambling, including internet poker. The bill, which has passed the House of Representatives and the US Senate in the past, but never both together, was attached to a Port Safety Bill, which virtually guaranteed that the poker bill would pass. While many poker players are crying foul, the bill does not target them, but rather the financial institutions that would allow transactions to fund online poker accounts…

Mainstream and industry media and the message boards remained dominated today (Tuesday) by debate, speculation and not a little panic regarding the weekend passing of US legislation designed to disrupt financial channels used by American online players.
