Poker Run Riders Help Sick Girl Even the Odds
When you are fighting a tough disease and the doctors give you 50/50 odds of surviving, you could use all the help you could get, and Sydnee Owens recently got a little odds-evening help from the Loup Valley Road Riders. The poker run (a motorcycle course run by participants who collect playing cards to build a winning hand) raised money that goes to pay medical costs for the Aurora Family. Poker jargon:
- EXPECTATION - The long-run [dis-]advantage of a given situation, specifically without reference to any particular outcome. I.e., what you figure to win [lose] on average after a large number of repetitions of the same situation.
- HIT - To make a hand or catch a card or cards that improves one's hand. "I hit a gut-shot draw on the river."
- MISDEAL - A hand dealt incorrectly that must be re-dealt.
- TAPPED [OUT] - Out of money. Can refer to a player running out of money in the course of a hand, thus still active for the main pot; or can refer to a player who has lost his bankroll and can no longer play.
- CALLER - One who calls. Sometimes used collectively, as in "3 callers".
- TOP TWO PAIR - In flop games, having hole cards that make the highest possible two pair hand.
