It is a little less than a month since Jeff Madsen burst onto the tournament poker scene with four final tables, two bracelets, and over $1.4 million in winnings at this year’s WSOP….
Doyle Brunson, the Godfather of Poker, once commented that in a short-term poker event like the World Series of Poker, luck might place much as a 75% factor in who will win. If that’s the case, and many of the pros are being beaten by luck, and out of the over 1000 players to continue on in today’s Day Three, there are very few big-name players. Among them are: Allen Cunningham, Annie Duke, Chris Ferguson, Cyndy Violette, David Pham, Hoyt Corkins, Humberto Brenes, Josh Arieh, Carlos Mortensen, Layne Flack, Nam Le, Phil Ivey, Surinder Sunar, Ted Forrest, Tex Barch, and Tom McEvoy…
FULTON, NY - The Oswego County Chamber of Commerce is busy putting the final touches on the first Phoenix Business Poker Run.
Last week was the first day of the Main Event of the 37th annual World Series of Poker, a Day One that stretched out for four days to accommodate the over 8700 players who paid a $10,000 buy in, picked up their chips and took the seat in the biggest poker show in the world. Since then these players have been whittled down to little over a thousand and for the first time today will all join together on Day Three of the WSOP. The play will continue down to around 700 players as the survivors march towards a $12 million first prize to be picked up on August 10th after the battle of the final day of the Main Event….
Back in the days of Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., the Rat Pack was all the rage, and when they made the original Ocean’s Eleven movie, it was a hit. When producer Jerry Weintraub remade Ocean’s Eleven, he had yet another hit on his hands, as well as the sequel, Ocean’s Twelve. Now, to give the stars of the upcoming Ocean’s Thirteen a place to relax and have some fun, a private poker lounge has been built on set for the cast and crew of the third Ocean’s movie…
It’s 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, August 3rd, rest day for the players remaining in the Main Event. Rest day for the media, as well… or at least most of them. At this time of day, the Rio Convention Center is as close to a ghost town….
For each Phil Ivey or John Juanda at this year’s WSOP, there are a hundred anonymous players whose experience can border on the surreal.
