IT IS going on 10.30pm in the city without clocks, and after nearly 12 hours of poker, Paul Azinger is a deep-down, someone’s-just-starched-my-hamstrings tired. His eyes are glassier than a mounted marlin’s.

Poker lingo:
- SHILL - A card room employee who plays with House money, and does not share in any of his (her) winnings or losses. Shills are used to facilitate starting games, and keeping them going. Compare: PROP.
- COMMUNITY CARDS - Cards that are available for every player to use in making a hand. Usually dealt face up somewhere in the middle of the table.
- JOKER - A 53rd card in the deck, distinct from the others, used as a wild card or as a BUG.
- HOOK - A Jack. So named because the "J" resembles a hook.
- BOAT - A FULL HOUSE, three of a kind and a pair.
- STRAIGHT FLUSH - A hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence and the same suit.
