Midsummer Nights Dream Poker Event
An event put together by Bodog founder Calvin Ayre honored and paid tribute to Magic Johnson, and was titled “A Midsummer Nights Dream” poker Event. The event was held at the Avalon and Spider Club in Hollywood and hosted by Ayre, who oversaw the event that took place in what looked like a Las Vegas casino. Poker dictionary:
- RAISE - To wager more than the minimum required to call, forcing other players to put in more money as well.
- SET - In Hold'em, three of a kind where two of the cards are hole cards.
- FLOP GAME - Any of a number of poker games where a flop is dealt.
- DOOR [CARD] - A player's first upcard in stud games.
- BET FOR VALUE - Betting a hand that, in the long run, is expected to win more than it loses. Antonym: BLUFF.
- RACE - In tournaments it is sometimes convenient to remove all lower-denomination chips from play, as the remaining players' stacks tend to grow. Small chips are converted to larger chips and any odd chips are "raced off" in the following way: each player with odd chips places them in front of his stack and is dealt one card for each chip. Highest card (rank and suit) takes all the small chips and converts them to higher-denomination chips.
