A Saturday night phone call from jockey Edgar Prado to trainer Richard Dutrow Jr., led to Sunday success in the $110,900 Poker Handicap at Belmont Park .

 

(from Belmont Park report) Jockey Edgar Prado had a hunch and trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. let him play it as Rebel Rebel came from well off the pace to score a 2 1/4-length win in the $110,900 Poker Handicap (gr. IIIT) for 3-year-olds.

 

The first weekend of action at the 2006 World Series of Poker had something for everyone to take in at the Amazon Room. Event #5, the $2,500 Short Handed tournament

 

When the third day of the $1,500 Limit Hold ‘em tournament began, it was anyone’s game, but in the end the game belonged to Kianoush Abolfathi, the winner of Event 4 of the 2006 WSOP, over 300 thousand dollars, and a gold bracelet that will forever mark him as one of the best poker players in the world. Kianoush Abolfathi beat Eric Buchman with a pair of tens.

The average online poker player has a lot of choices when it comes to tournaments to play in, and even poker rooms to chose from, but the big time payouts are typically reserved for live events, and are usually found in big name events such as the World Series of Poker or the World Poker Tour. When Binion’s Horseshoe casino was bought by Harrah’s Entertainment it did not stay with the new owner for long. It was quickly sold to third party, as Harrah’s was only interested in the rights to the World Series of Poker, which came along with the property. They have shown great skill in turning the WSOP brand into a cash cow, and while the play rages on in the Rio tournament room in Vegas this summer, their merchandising machine revs up on the official WSOP website…
