Niagra Falls Host Poker Survivor
In a ten day poker tournament marathon, poker players will battle it out at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort, with the magnificent falls providing a backdrop and something to do for those whose luck does not hold up at the table. Some 3,000 players from across Canada are battling it out in the second annual Degree Poker Championship.
Can’t make it to the Falls to check out the action? You will be able to see it from the comfort of your own home, as TSN is filming and will broadcast seven one hour shows in September, highlighting the action and especially the final table, which will be played on May 12, where the winner will nail $100,000 in prize money and a shot at $1 million in a one-hand showdown with a casino dealer.. …

Useful poker terms:
- FLOORMAN - The casino representative in charge of the card room or a section of a card room. Arbitrates disputes when unusual events happen.
- TOP PAIR - In flop games, having a hole card that matches the highest card on the board.
- TABLE STAKES - A standard rule whereby during a hand players can only bet the money they have on the table. If the bet to a player is more than the player's stack, that player may call with all his chips and be eligible to win only that portion of the pot he contributed to equally. A side pot is created, for which only the remaining players may compete.
- STEAM - Playing wildly, calling and raising a lot, because one is upset. Compare: ON TILT.
- FILL - To draw a card that makes a five-card hand (straight, flush, full house, straight flush).
- BUTTON CHARGE - A periodic fee paid by whoever is the button, perhaps every 20 minutes or 30 minutes. Constitutes part or all of the HOUSE CUT.
