Some of east Texas’ best poker faces got together to raise money for a Longview organization.

 

Production on Casino Royale, the next installment in the James Bond dynasty, encountered something of an obstacle when, while filming a crucial poker scene, producers discovered that 007 himself could tell a royal flush from a full house. After learning of Daniel Craig’s lack of poker prowess, the film’s producers sent for some expert help. John Duthie, a UK poker player who has made almost $3 million at the felt, was summoned to the set in Berlin to give Craig some expert poker pointers.

NOT SO LONG ago, another World Poker Tour (WPT) championship hit San Jose, right in my back yard. It was pretty nice driving just 20 minutes from my home to the Bay 101 card club to play in a WPT event. Unfortunately, I would be leaving Bay 101 on Day 1 with a bad taste in my mouth. Held at the Army, Navy and Air Force club in Brandon, the first legal charitable Texas Hold’Em tournament held in Manitoba has been declared a success. As part of a pilot project, the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission wanted to determine if poker games should be licensed events.
