Mike King Seeks Poker Crown

A two day poker tournament will have over 100 poker players vying for the first place spot. Along the way they will fold, bet, raise and go all in, and they may be in for a few laughs as well. Comedian Mike King is going to go for the crown with the rest of them in the Christchurch Casino event, as well as the winner’s share of the $200,000 prize pool.

Kicking off April 7th the tournament will have King trying his best, although he feels pretty confident in a statement released from the casino…

Poker glossary:

  • UNDERDOG - Before all the cards are dealt, a hand that does not figure to be the winner. Ant: FAVORITE.
  • BLACK - When referring to chips, black usually stands for $100 casino chips. "This guy sits down with a stack of blacks and raises the first bet." Not ALL casinos use black for $100 but that is the common usage.
  • FOUR OF A KIND - A hand containing all four cards of the same rank.
  • POT LIMIT - A game where the maximum bet is determined by the size of the pot at the time. Note that a player wanting to raise first calls the bet, then totals the pot to determine the maximum amount he can raise.
  • MITES AND LICE - A hand consisting of two pair, threes over twos.
  • DOUBLE BELLY BUSTER - A two-way inside straight. E.g., 3-5-6-7-9.
