Gordon Exits Celebrity Poker Showdown

Phil Gordon, host of Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown, is leaving the show to explore other opportunities. Gordon’s camp confirmed this by phone earlier today.In an official statement, Gordon said, “I no longer have any contracted obligations to the producers of Celebrity Poker Showdown, so I am ready to move on… After 42 episodes of Celebrity Poker, I just want to see people play in turn, bet more than $200 into a $5K pot, and know when they have the nuts. Poker jargon:

  • LOOSE - Playing more hands than the norm. Antonym: TIGHT.
  • DOYLE BRUNSON - In Hold'em, 10-2 in the hole. So named because Doyle Brunson won two straight WSOPs (q.v.) in 1975 and 1976 with 10-2 on the last hand. (Suited (spades) in 1975, unsuited in 1976).
  • CHECK RAISE - To check initially, then raise a bet made later on in the same betting round. Frequently a sign of strength, but may be a bluff.
  • STRAIGHT FLUSH - A hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence and the same suit.
  • OPEN-HANDED - A category of games characterized by a part of each player's hand being exposed.
  • OVER - A term used in describing two pair or a full house. "Kings over tens" means two pair, kings and tens. "Jacks over", also "Jacks up" describes a hand that is two pair: Jacks with an unspecified lower pair. Also used to describe a full house, distinguishing the three of a kind from the pair. The hand J-J-J-A-A could be described as "Full house, Jacks over Aces".
