Canada’s first Women’s Poker Classic Has A Winner
On Sunday, February 19 a No Limit Texas Holdem event kicked off with more than $70,000 up for grabs in Canadas very first Women’s Poker Classic. 250 women took their seats and began the grind to discover who would be the best, crowed the first Womans champ of Canada, and take the lions share of the prize pool. With a Limit Texas Holdem game also going on and a prize pool there of $37,500, there was over $112,000 to be awarded, making poker history in Canada and bringing lots of cash to breast cancer research in British Columbia all at once.
In the end it was Clarissa Hannem of Esquimalt who snagged the top prize and the top check as well, earning herself $22,680.00 and becoming Canada’s first ever Women’s Poker Classic champion….

Poker jargon:
- ASSAULT RIFLE - In Omaha, hole cards that are A-K-4-7 of any suit(s).
- FLAT CALL - To call a bet. Emphasizes that the caller did not raise.
- QUARTER - [1] Twenty-five dollars, often symbolized by a green casino chip. [2] To divide half a pot between two tying hands. In split pot games, a player who "ties" another player for their half of the pot is said to be "quartered". One might say "I didn't bet my A-2 because I figured I'd get quartered".
- DECLARE - In high/low games, declaring one's hand as high or low or both ways (usually done with chips in hand). Usually played in home games; casinos tend to play CARDS SPEAK.
- BOARD - The exposed cards in Hold'em and stud. Also BOARD CARDS.
- FREE CARD - A card dealt after all players checked in a betting round.
