Monroe Poker In The Cards
On Tuesday, February 14th the City Council for the city of Monroe met to discuss social gaming but ended up tabling the discussion. The delay was designed to give councilors David Ballard and Mike Lancaster enough time to put together an ordinance that would allow the ultra popular Texas HoldÂ’em poker games. Ordinances from other cities that have similarities to what they hope to accomplish will be considered by Ballard and Lancaster.
Some Monroe citizens are disappointed at the delay, such as Charlie Pecorilla who had hopes of organizing a poker game at the Long Branch tavern…

Poker talk:
- KICKER - In hands containing pairs and trips, the highest card not matched. In draw games, sometimes a card kept for deception purposes.
- CUT - To break the deck into 2 stacks of at least 5 cards each. Usually performed by the player to the dealer's right to insure that the the deck is not stacked.
- RAIL - A barrier dividing the card playing area from a public area.
- SHARK - A good/crafty player often posing as a fish early in the game.
- BICYCLE - The best possible low hand: A-2-3-4-5. More common term: WHEEL.
- TOP TWO PAIR - In flop games, having hole cards that make the highest possible two pair hand.
