WSOP Continues Tradition Of 2.5 Million
The worlds biggest and most venerated professional poker tour is ready to prove once again why they are deserving of so much poker player loyalty by once more upping the jackpot for their main event. The World Series of Poker, now owned by the worlds largest casino operator, Harrahs Entertainment, will add another 2.5 million to the prize, making it ten million for 2006.
For years the WSOP was at a one million dollar prize cap, then in 2003 the amount jumped to $2.5 million the same time poker everyman Chris Moneymaker made the news by being an online qualifier to the event he eventually won. The following year Greg Raymer won the prize, which had doubled to $5 million, and last year it was Joe Hachem with the win and the $7.5 million cash out….

Poker lexicon:
- OPENER - The player who opens the betting, especially in draw poker. A hand may have no openers, in which case it is PASSED OUT, i.e., new hands are dealt.
- EVEN-MONEY - A bet that pays off exactly the amount wagered. E.g., "Double or nothing" is an even-money bet.
- COLD CALL - Calling both a bet and raise at the same time, as opposed to calling a bet then later calling a raise made after the call.
- TRIP - Three of a specific kind, as in "Trip sixes".
- INSIDE STRAIGHT - Four cards to a straight, where only one rank will complete the hand. E.g., 4-5-6-8 is an inside straight since only a 7 will fill (i.e., complete) the hand. Often called a GUT-SHOT. Compare: BOBTAIL STRAIGHT, OPEN-ENDED STRAIGHT.
- LIVE [CARD] - In Stud, a card probably not held by other players.
