Clubs reject poker machine tax offer
New South Wales clubs have voted to pay a levy to fund a campaign against the State Government in the lead-up to the next election. One thousand delegates voted unanimously today to reject the Government’s latest offer on poker machine tax, saying the big clubs are still being unfairly hit.

Poker glossary:
- ROYAL FLUSH - An ace-high straight flush, the best possible hand in regular poker.
- NO-LIMIT POKER - A game where there is no maximum bet; a player can wager any amount (perhaps above some minimum) up to whatever money is on the table in front of him.
- SHARK - A good/crafty player often posing as a fish early in the game.
- RUNNER-RUNNER - A hand made using both of the last two cards dealt.
- LIVE ONE - The best kind of opponent, a poor player with a lot of money to lose and in a hurry to lose it.
- PAT HAND - In draw poker, a hand that does not need any more cards. Specifically, a straight, flush, full house or straight flush. One might bluff and represent a pat hand but actually hold something else.
