Televised poker and reality programming have irreversibly changed the face of broadcasting, with millions of people all over the world tuning in to these types of shows each week. Bodog CEO and founder Calvin Ayre is set to combine these two television genres into a new reality poker program. The poker show will be filmed at Ayre’s majestic mansion, also known as the Bodog Compound, in Costa Rica and will feature 40 hopefuls vying for the $500,000 grand prize.
Last year Texas bikers, poker players and charity workers all received bad news when the Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott stated that poker runs, which involved bikers riding and collecting poker cards to raise money for charities, where effectively illegal. He pointed out that poker is a game of chance, which is illegal gambling in the states penal code, and that no one should profit from it, not even a charity. In response, some charitable organizations are seeking new venues to hold their poker related fund raising events, even crossing the border south into Juarez to do it.
