Rushing to cash in on the Texas hold ‘em craze, charities are using poker events to raise money, in some cases ignoring state laws that outlaw such gambling.
In an ongoing investigation of poker legend Doyle Brunson and his poker-related business ventures, specifically the goings-on surrounding his online poker room, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has placed Wallace Nakano under subpoena. Nakano, the DoylesRoom.com online poker operator, is alleged to have a connection to takeover activities involving the poker site’s namesake, Doyle Brunson, and the World Poker Tour (WPT).
A unique event that took place over the weekend saw poker’s champions take on football and baseball legends. Instead of taking place on the diamond or the gridiron, however, poker’s finest squared off against Roger Clemens, Dan Marino, and John Elway on turf somewhat more familiar to card players, in the form of green felt. The 2006 Legends Celebrity Invitational Poker Tournament hosted by the legendary sports trio took place at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
Today two professional football teams will be taking the field against one another in a monumental event, Superbowl number forty. The Pittsburgh Steelers, taking another shot at a Superbowl win, versus the Seattle Seahawks in their first ever attempt. An event with four hosts, three of which are sports icons, took place at the Palms Casino Resort Friday night, with a $2,500 ticket price attached per attendee. Jennifer Harman was the fourth co-host at the 2006 Legends Celebrity Invitational Poker Tournament, where the ticket price included a buy in to the event. The red carpet arrival of celebrity guests and poker pros had the media excited…
