Cherokee chief maintains poker hopes
CHEROKEE, N.C. — The vice chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians said the governor has rejected live poker at the tribe’s casino. But the chief of the 13,500-member tribe disputes that claim, and Gov. Mike Easley isn’t commenting.

Casino poker language:
- RUNNER-RUNNER - A hand made using both of the last two cards dealt.
- CRYING CALL - A call made with little chance of ultimately winning, but marginally better than an immediate fold.
- DRAW - [1] A class of poker games characterized by players being dealt 5 cards face-down and later having the opportunity to replace some of the original 5. "Draw poker" and "Five-card draw" are examples of usage. [2] In stud and Hold'em games, the set of cards that will be dealt later can be collectively called "the draw". [3] To discard some number of cards and have dealt an equal number of replacements.
- OVERPAIR - In Hold'em, a pair in the hole that is larger than any community card on the board.
- QUALIFIER - A minimum standard that a hand must meet in order to win. Usually applied to the lowball side of a high-low split pot.
- EDGE - An advantage over an opponent, either specific or subjective.
