Round One at Borgata Winter Poker Open Is a Knockout

Day one of the World Poker Tour main event is now history and so are some of the game’s top players. The Borgata Winter Poker Open’s feature event, the $10,000 buy-in, also saw the arrival of numerous media outlets, including CardPlayer, PokerPages, and Pokerwire, to name a few, with more expected over the course of the main event.

Useful poker terms:

  • STACKED [DECK] - A deck that has been arranged to give one player a huge advantage. Also: RIGGED.
  • DOYLE BRUNSON - In Hold'em, 10-2 in the hole. So named because Doyle Brunson won two straight WSOPs (q.v.) in 1975 and 1976 with 10-2 on the last hand. (Suited (spades) in 1975, unsuited in 1976).
  • STRAIGHT - A hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence but not in suit.
  • ANTE - A small bet all players are required to make before a hand is dealt. Not all games have an ante. Related terms: BLIND, FORCED BET.
  • FLOP GAME - Any of a number of poker games where a flop is dealt.
  • IN - Still eligible to win the pot. "I'm in" is often spoken as one adds chips to the pot, calling.
