For the last few years, poker TV has been building up quite a head of steam. Starting with the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker, Bravos Celebrity Poker Showdown was next, the first to start to crack the mold of poker tournament TV. Even so, it was mostly a show about people playing poker, so the batch of new poker shows this year should bring some welcome variety.
In February locals in the Holy Land will get a chance to experience the thrill of going all in and bluffing out their opponents, an they won’t have to shell out thousands of dollars for a plane ticket and room accommodations in Las Vegas. The Israel Poker Association’s Pokerface 2006 tournament event will kick off on February 7 at the Tel Aviv Fairgrounds and will last thirteen weeks.
Better known for its historical sites, political conflict, and religious significance, Israel has always been a destination of choice for tourists. But even the Middle East is not immune to the global phenomenon that is poker. Poker’s prominence in the pint-sized Middle-Eastern state is evidenced by the existence of an official Israel Poker Association.
