NEW YORK, NY JANUARY 17, 2006 2K Sports, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced that World Poker Tour ® (WPT) for the PSP TM (PlayStation ® Portable) system is slated for release this spring.

 

Having outlasted 361 other players, Joe Hachem’s run at the Aussie Millions has finally ended. The 2005 WSOP poker champion lasted until the middle of day three in the five-day tournament. Hachem, who lives in Australia, became the unofficial focus of the prestigious poker tournament due to his superstar status and Down Under residence.

 

It’s known that North Americans, Canadians in particular, have a passion for hockey. Recently, however, some of the game’s elite players have also gotten into poker as their second sport of choice. In the clearest evidence of this trend, players on one National Hockey League (NHL) team will be putting their skates and sticks on ice for the night and will instead be pulling up seats at poker tables to benefit charity.

 

Non-profit groups in New Brunswick are asking the province to legalize charitable poker tournaments. Unregulated gambling is a criminal offence, but poker players don’t have any trouble finding a game. At least two bars in Saint John are openly advertising poker tournaments.

 

CASSELBERRY - A poker game took a violent turn when an off-duty reserve police officer shot two men who refused to let him play, authorities said.Maitland Officer Daniel John Metevier shot player Francis Webster in the shoulder and Jason Granich in the stomach, Seminole County sheriff’s investigators said.Granich was listed in serious but not life-threatening condition, the Sheriff’s Office said.
