UK Poker Casinos Meet 21st Century
With the intense proliferation of online poker rooms in the last few years, many a brick and mortar poker player must have felt some frustration at the long lines and tedious pen and paper process to register for and participate in poker tournaments. In the United Kingdom, in the Grosvenor chain of casinos, someone has heard their grumbling and moved to answer it with a 21st Century solution.
An electronic system called “CardRoomMAGIC” will be installed in all Grosvenor casinos, which will take on most of the manual labor involved in keeping a card room operational. A large plasma screen will display the progress of tournaments and other vital poker info to participants as well…

Useful poker terms:
- FLAT LIMIT - A variant of fixed limit where all bets are the same amount.
- MARKED CARDS - Cards that have been (illegally) altered so that their value can be read from the back.
- BUTTON - A distinctive token held by the player sitting in the theoretical dealer's position, when a house dealer is used. The button rotates around the table so that every player has an opportunity to be the last to act. Also, "THE BUTTON" can refer to the player who currently has the button. ("I was the button and called the blind".) Synonyms: BUCK, PUCK.
- EVEN-MONEY - A bet that pays off exactly the amount wagered. E.g., "Double or nothing" is an even-money bet.
- PAY OFF - Calling a bet with little expectation of winning, unless the opponent is bluffing.
- FLOORMAN - The casino representative in charge of the card room or a section of a card room. Arbitrates disputes when unusual events happen.
