Area card ace will ante up in major poker tournament
While Wilburn typically plays online poker, he does manage to play a few games with family and friends in his Moscow home.
Imagine competing with more than 6,000 of the world’s best poker players for millions of dollars in a crowded Las Vegas casino in front of a national television audience.
While few can comprehend such an unfamiliar experience, a 23-year-old Moscow native will be introduced to such a scenario in July. That’s when Wesley Wilburn is scheduled to participate in the 2006 World Series of Poker tournament at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in the heart of Las Vegas.
Wilburn, a senior archeology major at Mississippi State University in Starkville, won a coveted seat to the world’s largest poker tournament last month by outplaying more than 4,500 other online No Limit Hold’em poker players on www.RoyalVegasPoker.com.
His prize was a $10,000 buy-in to the World Series of Poker main event…
