Poker machines have damaged Victoria’s health and its hospitality industry, and failed to boost tourism or retail jobs, a report shows. The machines have sparked a surge in problem gambling and lured law-abiding people into crime, according to the report, commissioned by the Bracks Government.
The study compares Victoria and its 523 pokie venues with those in Western Australia and its single casino.
