Player Profile: Sam Farha
Sam Farha’s got that certain look. “Central casting’s idea of what a poker pro should look like,” is the way an acquaintance put it, right down to that “lucky cigarette” in one corner of his mouth.
He could double for the late Humphrey Bogart, if they ever want to do a remake of “Casablanca.”
It’s easy to imagine Ingrid Bergman, her hands draped over his shoulder, smoke from the cigarette drifting across their faces, Ingrid whispering sweet promises, “Bogart” with his look of rakish sophistication.
But getting back to reality . . . The Lebanese-born Farha, a Houston resident is also a very good professional poker player.
And people keep coming back to that look.

Poker slang:
- PASSED OUT. - A hand in which nobody opens. What happens next is a function of the game being played.
- MANIAC - A player who bets, raises and reraises without regard to the quality of his hand. Most often found in flop games.
- FLOP - [1] In Hold'em, the first three community cards, dealt simultaneously. [2] To deal a flop, or to make a hand on a flop. "I flopped trips".
- READ - To determine whether an opponent has a good, medium or bad hand by observing his personal behavior. An inexact science.
- CAP - To cap the betting is to make the last permitted raise in a round.
- STACKED [DECK] - A deck that has been arranged to give one player a huge advantage. Also: RIGGED.
