While Texas Hold’em is clearly the most popular poker game in the world today, some players don’t realize that it’s a variation of another game: Seven-Card Stud. As anyone with a television knows, each player in Texas Hold’em is dealt two cards face down. Players then share five community cards.

- BICYCLE - The best possible low hand: A-2-3-4-5. More common term: WHEEL.
- STUD - Any of several poker games in which some of each players' cards are exposed.
- SEVENTH STREET - The seventh card dealt in 7-card stud.
- FREEROLL - [1] A poker tournament that does not charge a buy-in fee; players must earn buy-in credits through previous play at the same establishment. [2] Having a lock on part of a pot (sure to win a greater fraction of the pot than one is betting) and playing to win more or all of it.
- STRAIGHT FLUSH - A hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence and the same suit.
- TOP PAIR - In flop games, having a hole card that matches the highest card on the board.
