How Do You WIN Poker Tournaments?
Most of the time I put my poker tip of the week at the bottom of the column. So today, all of this column will be my poker tip of the week, as I try to tell the folks how you win poker tournaments.
I have played in hundreds of poker tournaments-and, yes, I have won poker tournaments. The winning of a poker tournament is not an exact science. But over the years of playing I have created about sixty rules for winning. I will just tell you that all of those rules are good ones and that they all have played an important part for me in the winning of tournaments over the years. Now here are the top three:
Rule #1-You must have enough money to get into the tournament.
a) save the money up for your buy-in into the poker tournament
b) take partners. If, for example, it is a $1,500 event, get yourself two partners and each of you put up $500.

Poker argot:
- POT - The total amount of money bet so far in a hand.
- FLAT LIMIT - A variant of fixed limit where all bets are the same amount.
- TURN - The fourth community card in Hold'em.
- IN - Still eligible to win the pot. "I'm in" is often spoken as one adds chips to the pot, calling.
- POCKET PAIR - Generic Hold'em term for 2 hole cards of the same rank.
- SEVENTH STREET - The seventh card dealt in 7-card stud.
