Police Raiding New York City Poker Clubs
NEW YORK - On a busy night at the New York Players Club in upper Manhattan, vice squad officers wearing bulletproof vests and raid jackets dealt the underground poker scene a losing hand. The team entered unannounced at 11 p.m., detaining dealers, snatching up piles of cash and sending dozens of card players home with empty pockets.

Poker terminology:
- RING GAME - A standard game where players can come and go as they choose. The opposite of TOURNAMENT.
- NICKEL - Five dollars, usually represented by a red casino check.
- DEALER'S CHOICE - In home games, a rule that permits the dealer to name which poker game to be played that hand. Often limited to selecting from a list provided.
- POCKET PAIR - Generic Hold'em term for 2 hole cards of the same rank.
- WIRED [PAIR] - A pair in the hole. In 5-card stud, a door card that pairs the hole card.
- POCKET ROCKETS - In Hold'em, a pair of aces for hole cards.
