What I’m about to teach you may slightly contradict my advice not to play aggressively against poker bullies. I’ve told you that you should often let deceptive, aggressive opponents take the lead. Give them a chance to hang themselves. But poker isn’t a game of simple formulas. There are times to do one thing and times to do pretty much the opposite.
If an opponent is passively aggressive, often trying to trap you, the situation may be different. You’re facing a different type of bully. As you continue your poker learning adventures, these situations will become clearer and clearer. You’ll learn what tool is right when.

Poker terminology:
- PAY OFF - Calling a bet with little expectation of winning, unless the opponent is bluffing.
- LOCK - A hand that cannot be beat under any circumstances. Also: NUTS.
- DRAW - [1] A class of poker games characterized by players being dealt 5 cards face-down and later having the opportunity to replace some of the original 5. "Draw poker" and "Five-card draw" are examples of usage. [2] In stud and Hold'em games, the set of cards that will be dealt later can be collectively called "the draw". [3] To discard some number of cards and have dealt an equal number of replacements.
- COMPUTER HAND - Texas Hold'em hole cards of Q-7 offsuit. More generically, any hand that computer analysis/simulation determines is positive but turns out to be difficult to play in practice.
- CARDS SPEAK - Winner(s) of the hand are determined by turning their cards face up, the best hand(s) wins (no declaration).
- REPRESENT - Implying, by one's betting style, that one has a particular hand.
