A-Rod Swears Off Poker Parlors
Yankee superstar third baseman Alex Rodriguez said Monday that he was giving up the poker trips that have brought his reputation into question. A-Rod had been spotted at several of the New York City’s poker parlors this year, including a five night run at one particular club after his team was busted out of the AL playoffs by the Los Angeles Angels.
“Obviously, it wasn’t the right thing to do”, said Rodriguez after winning his second AL MVP award in three seasons. “In retrospect, it is probably a place I shouldn’t have gone.”
His ball club and the baseball commissioner had suggested he would be better off avoiding places like the underground poker clubs in the city, because it could send the wrong message to underage fans, and possibly be dangerous…

- REPRESENT - Implying, by one's betting style, that one has a particular hand.
- COLD CALL - Calling both a bet and raise at the same time, as opposed to calling a bet then later calling a raise made after the call.
- AMERICAN AIRLINES - In Hold'em, a pair of Aces in the hole. Better known (at least in rec.gambling) as POCKET ROCKETS.
- BAD GAME - Any game in which you figure to be the loser, because the other players are better than you.
- BICYCLE - The best possible low hand: A-2-3-4-5. More common term: WHEEL.
- BARN - A FULL HOUSE, three of a kind and a pair.
