Tony Grand, 81, Lets the Youngsters Know About the Poker Tournament Grind
Now 81 years old, poker pro Tony Grand has been playing the game at a high level of competition for three decades. Since no-limit Texas hold ‘em bullied its way into the public’s consciousness in the past several years, Grand often finds himself the senior player at a given table — sometimes by about 50 years. But Grand will gladly put his experience on the line against his opponents’ youth, he said. “You got a lot of kids of playing, and some of them are pretty lucky,” Grand of Chatsworth, Calif.

Poker glossary:
- IN - Still eligible to win the pot. "I'm in" is often spoken as one adds chips to the pot, calling.
- DOOR [CARD] - A player's first upcard in stud games.
- TRIPS - Three of a kind. In Hold'em the term SET is used when two of the three cards are hole cards.
- BUNNY - An eight. So named because one can easily draw "rabbit ears" above the numeral 8, "paws" in the middle and "feet" at the bottom. (Do this only at home, and not on cards that will be used for play.)
- FLAT CALL - To call a bet. Emphasizes that the caller did not raise.
- FREEROLL - [1] A poker tournament that does not charge a buy-in fee; players must earn buy-in credits through previous play at the same establishment. [2] Having a lock on part of a pot (sure to win a greater fraction of the pot than one is betting) and playing to win more or all of it.
