Some poker clubs close after A-Rod revelations
NEW YORK - The scrutiny over Alex Rodriguez’s visits to illegal poker dens has caused some of the city’s gambling hot spots to cash in their chips. Poker lingo:
- PASS - Opposite of bet. To check, if checked to. To fold, if bet to.
- ON TILT - Playing worse (usually, more aggressively) than usual because a player has become emotionally upset.
- ON THE COME - A situation where the player does not have a complete hand but hopes to make one if the right cards come up.
- OPEN - Make the first bet in a hand, especially in draw poker.
- LIVE [CARD] - In Stud, a card probably not held by other players.
- OPEN-ENDED STRAIGHT - Four cards to a straight which can be completed by drawing a card at either end. E.g., 6-7-8-9 is an open-ended straight. Also: BOBTAIL STRAIGHT. Compare: INSIDE STRAIGHT.
