Poker players use strategies learned in Dan Harrington’s two popular books
Late in 2004 and earlier this year, an acclaimed two-volume set of books on how to play no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournaments, titled “Harrington on Hold ‘em” was released by Two Plus Two Publishing of Henderson. Since then the level of play on the circuit of major poker tournaments, already pretty rugged, has become even tougher and more sophisticated, according to professional gambler Blair Rodman. Poker slang:
- WALK - A pot won by the last blind when no one opens.
- MISDEAL - A hand dealt incorrectly that must be re-dealt.
- BLUFF - To make a bet or raise with a poor hand, in hope that the remaining active player(s) will fold.
- RAISE - To wager more than the minimum required to call, forcing other players to put in more money as well.
- RAKE - Money taken from each pot and given to the house in return for hosting the game. Usually a percentage of the pot (5%-10%) up to some maximum amount.
- NO-LIMIT POKER - A game where there is no maximum bet; a player can wager any amount (perhaps above some minimum) up to whatever money is on the table in front of him.
